The Jubilee: Our Five Top Tips for Throwing a Great British Street Party

The once-in-a-lifetime Platinum Jubilee is just around the corner, so we’re sharing our top tips for hosting a street party that’s sure to be the talk of the town for years to come!

1. Decorate the table

Unleash the crafters of your street to give a glow-up to the all-important centre of the celebrations. Upcycling your yoghurt jars into pretty candle holders is a great place to start, and even one the kids can get involved in. You can even craft some mini bunting from this newspaper!

2. Bring out the chefs

Whether it’s some simple finger food like mini quiches or a fancy trifle, we’re sure you’ll have some neighbours with mouth-watering culinary skills just waiting to be admired. If you’re stumped for ideas, we’ve got plenty of recipe inspiration for you.

3. The centrepiece

Who will be Queen (or King) of the puddings? Why not fight it out in a bake-off where everyone’s the judge?

4. Street quiz

It’s one of the more fun ways to get to know each other. You can even vote each other for awards – who’s always got the best garden, the cleanest car, and who’s the street ‘binfluencer?’

5. Appeal to the talent

Even the neighbours who are no good at crafts or cooking will have something to contribute. By having the gym fiends arrange some sporty activities, or getting the neighbourhood kids to bring the games, they’ll surely be something for everyone.
