Our Earth Day Reforestation Project: An Update

This Earth Day, we embarked on a mission with Treeapp to do our bit to support reforestation in the UK. You clicked to add a free tree to your doorstep delivery, and soon it will be time for us to start planting them!

The Project

Our reforestation project takes place at Nunny’s Farm, a community care petting farm and animal sanctuary in Lincolnshire.

Thanks to your tree orders, we’ll be planting a huge hedgerow of 2,000 trees along the farm’s border. Treeapp’s forestry experts have chosen a biodiverse mix of 8 species, including willow, bird cherry, beech, and holly, to provide the maximum benefit to the area.

Environmental Benefits

Hedgerows play a vital role in Lincolnshire’s landscape, where they’ve sadly seen a significant decline over the past hundred years. That’s why we’re thrilled that our project supports a larger effort to reintroduce native trees and shrubs to boost biodiversity in the area.

By creating new hedgerows, we’re not just adding beauty; we’re helping local nature by providing ecological corridors through urban areas, as well as providing much-needed shelter and food for all kinds of wildlife, including pollinators, birds, and small mammals.

Not only that, but hedgerows also benefit the climate by capturing carbon and enriching the land. For instance, the willow trees that will be planted in the wetter areas of the farm have been chosen to help manage water and improve soil conditions.

Social Benefits

Nunny’s Farm provides therapeutic and educational activities for vulnerable people in the community, including neurodivergent people, veterans, and people recovering from addiction. Its future plans include a forest school that will offer even more hands-on learning experiences.

The new green boundary we’re creating will offer some natural and calming privacy for everyone on the farm, as well as serving as a vibrant living classroom for its educational ventures. It’s all about learning in a fun, engaging way, and connecting with nature.

We’re so happy to be making a difference this Earth Day. Thank you for supporting us to make this project happen.
