Chocolate Apple Betty Recipe

What you'll need

  • 150g fresh white breadcrumbs
  • Dollop of Tom Parker double cream
  • 150g light soft brown sugar
  • 100g butter, melted
  • 100g dark chocolate, roughly chopped
  • 1kg Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and roughly chopped
  • 3 tbsp golden syrup

How to make

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/ 160°C fan/ gas mark 4.
  2. Mix the apples, 50g (2 ounces) of sugar and 2 tablespoons of water into a 1.8 litre ovenproof serving dish.
  3. Bake for 40 minutes, or until the apples have started to soften, then mash them roughly with a fork.
  4. Mix the remaining sugar with the breadcrumbs, chocolate, butter, golden syrup and 1 or 2 tablespoons of fine salt.
  5. Spoon this mixture on top of the mashed apples.
  6. Return to the oven for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Serve with a delicious big dollop of double cream. Yum!
