Spook-tacular Halloween Fruit Ideas

Add apples, bananas, oranges, grapes and watermelon to your weekly shopping list and bring your fruit bowl to life with these 5 Halloween fruit snack favourites.

1. Monster Apple Bites – Apple slices with peanut butter and strawberry ‘tongues’

Core your apples and cut them into wedges. On the side with peel, cut the middles out of each wedge to create a gaping mouth. Spread peanut butter in the gap and use it as a glue to stick a thinly sliced strawberry in the middle to make a tongue. Not spooky enough? Spike sunflower seeds into the apple mouth to make wonky teeth.

2. Ghost Bananas – Banana halves with chocolate chip eyes

To make this healthy Halloween treat, cut bananas in half and press chocolate chips into the fruit to make eyes. Stand each half banana up on a tray for a full ghostly effect.

3. Pumpkin Tangerines – Peeled tangerines with celery ‘stalks’

Peel tangerines and insert a small celery stick into the top to look like a pumpkin stalk. Ready in 5 minutes, this is an easy, healthy Halloween idea that kids love.

4. Spider Grapes – Grapes on toothpicks with edible eyes

Take 8 toothpicks and thread a couple of grapes on each one. Then attach the toothpick to a plum, 4 on each side, to make spidery legs. Use a white icing pen to add eyes to the plum and create a creepy crawly snack – but be sure to carefully remove the grapes from the picks before eating.

5. Watermelon Jack-o’-Lantern – Carved watermelon filled with fruit salad

Cut a hole in the top of a watermelon and carve out the inside like you would a pumpkin. Carefully cut out eyes and a mouth and place a tea light inside. Serve the scooped-out watermelon with a splash of lime next to the lantern for a show-stopping fresh fruit salad centrepiece.

Halloween Fruit Platter Inspiration

Take your spooky snacks a step further by arranging them into a Halloween fruit platter.

Pumpkin Face Platter – Arrange orange fruit with green accents for a pumpkin look

Use slices of orange fruits such as cantaloupe, mango and oranges to create a circular pumpkin face on a tray or board. Add a green apple slice at the top as a stalk and get creative with strawberries for the mouth and blueberries and blackberries for the eyes.

Skeleton Platter – Fruit body parts arranged on a large board

For this Halloween fruit platter, start with 5 round slices of apple layered on top of one another as the skeleton’s body, then use thin slices of melon to create the arms and legs. Add upturned orange segments as the ribs and a carved ‘apple skull’ to complete the spooky skeleton look.

Haunted Graveyard Board – Fruit with edible ‘tombstones’ and spooky accents

Layer dark fruits such as blueberries, blackberries, grapes and pomegranate seeds on a board. Add chocolate biscuits standing upright as your tombstones with ghost bananas peering out from behind them.

Perfect Pairings: Spooky Fruit Dips

A Halloween fruit platter isn’t complete without a few spooky dips to dunk into.

Green Slime Yoghurt Dip – Yoghurt with green food colouring

Mix yoghurt with a tiny bit of green food colouring and some honey for a dip that tastes much better than it looks.

Purple Witch’s Brew – Yoghurt or cream cheese dip with berry puree

Blend cream cheese with mixed berries and yoghurt for a sweet, purple potion-style dip. Bonus points if you can serve it in a mini cauldron-style bowl!

Chocolate ‘Cobweb’ Drizzle – Melted chocolate for a sweet finish

Melt chocolate and use a piping bag to delicately drizzle cobweb patterns across your fruit platter as an indulgent finishing touch.
